Petroleum Minister Asked to Defend Alleged N2 Billion She Spent on Private Jets

thee closing Liberties Organisation (CLO) in Bayelsa State has asked the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke to explain her alleged involvement in the wasteful spending of N2 billion on chartered jets for official and private trips abroad in the last two years. In a statement issued yesterday in Yenagoa, the state capital, CLO Chairman, Nengi James, asked the minister to offer her explanation within a week as her silence may mean a disgraceful admittance of guilt. While noting that the petition against the minister on the frivolous expenses was before the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), James said civil society organizations were concerned on the allegation. According to the chairman, civil society groups were worried that Allison-Madueke’s alleged involvement in the N2 billion saga did not hamper the advocacy for the passage of the Petroleum Industrial Bill (PIB) and the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015. He said: “We expected her to use her good office to ensure the passage of the PIB and not frivolous spending. We know that the move to ensure the passage of the PIB will attract attempts on her person. We were not expecting such level of fraudulent spending. To save the PIB, the CLO will want to insist that she explains her involvement within a week. “The minister should use her explanation to assure the people of the Niger Delta and the civil Society groups of her innocence and confidence as the Petroleum Minister.”

Dead man wakes up after 3 days a Mortuary: Tells his story(Photo)

soldier, Kayode Sotunde, 49
told his story of how he
undertook a journey from
Gboko to Kano on April 11, this
year when the commercial bus
he was in crashed ,claiming him
and 17 others.
However, he wokeup three days after in the mortuary,
where his body and others were deposited for their
families to claim for burial.According to Sotunde, his
corpse was taken out of the mortuary and was being
prepared for burial when he suddenly woke up.
Read his experience as narrated to Sunday Sun in
Abeokuta, Ogun State
Journey from Gboko to mortuary
On that fateful day, that was April 11, 2013, I was
travelling from Gboko to Kano to see my younger brother,
Jide Sotunde, a soldier serving in Kano. We had agreed
on the journey which we had thought would afford us to
discuss important issues, including the possibilities of
getting another job that would not be too far from where
I had my wife.
I retired from the Nigerian Army, (Supply and
Transport), Apapa Lagos where I served for 30 years,
during which I also participated in many peace keeping
force assignments outside Nigeria.
After retirement, I got a job as a security guard at the
Dangote Cement, Gboko, Benue State from where I also
resigned because of the distance of my workplace and
where my family was based in Osogbo.
The ill-fated vehicle was an 18-seater passenger bus,
which I boarded in Gboko en-route Kano. We were barely
two hours into the journey when a passenger asked us to
pray. Since it was a normal thing for a passenger to offer
to pray on such a long journey, I did not heed his call. I
was just playing with my mobile phone set.
Aside from that, I didn’t believe in the prayer since I
didn’t know anything about Jesus Christ. I was a
freethinker who neither went to church nor worshipped
any idol. We were making progress on the journey when
suddenly there was a bang. That was all I could recollect
about the journey until I woke up three days after in the
mortuary of the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching
Hospital, Kano where I was told that I died in an accident
and my corpse along with other 17 passengers were
deposited there.
Even though the hospital authorities told me that I was in
their morgue for three days as a dead man, I actually
spent more days there before I could regain my senses.
I was to be buried in Kano
I was told that before I returned from the land of the
dead, my family had instructed my younger brother who I
was visiting in Kano before the accident to bury me in
Kano since they could not afford the N150,000, which was
said to have been requested by transporters to take my
corpse from Kano to Abeokuta. My elder sister,
Moradeke Sotunde played a prominent role in this regard.
I was also told that it was at the point that my corpse was
being prepared for interment that suddenly I returned
to the land of the living after my corpse was taken out of
the mortuary for prayers by Islamic clerics who were
said to have sprinkled water on my corpse preparatory to
my burial. I was also told that my hair was also shaved as
demanded by the clerics.
I was told that my corpse was taken out of the mortuary
after they had dug my grave and organised some clerics
to offer the funeral prayers.
They wanted to bury me in Kano because my family
members couldn’t afford N150,000 demanded for
carrying my corpse to Abeokuta for burial. The initial
plan was to move my corpse back home to Abeokuta,
where a grave had been dug but for the transportation
cost.
Life in the land of the dead
My brother, truly, there is life after death. I can also tell
you that there is a living God. You may not believe me, but
I am a living witness to this. I may not be able to describe
Heaven or Hell, but there is another life after this one
that we are living.
This place I am talking about is full of snow. I may not
have been to America, but I have heard about snow.
Where we were was full of snow, with plenty of
something that I can describe as alum stones; whitish in
colour with something I can describe as granite in this
physical world. In spite of the terrible cold, there was no
day that we felt cold and it was never harmful to us.
All of us were there without knowing whether we are
male or female. We couldn’t see our eyes, mouth and nose.
We had no leg; we had no arm, but we floated in the air
without our bodies touching the ground. We were flying
around what I will describe as another planet.
On the third day of my arrival on the strange planet, they
gave me a message that we were expecting one big
prophet.
After the message was delivered, they nominated ushers
among us to welcome the prophet. And seconds later,
people started trooping in, jubilating as if a goal was just
scored in a football match.
On that planet, there were many stars which were not
stable in one place, like we have in the sky in this world. I
noticed that on a daily basis, people kept on increasing,
even though we don’t know from where they came.
I was in this mood until they (I don’t know them) told me
that I should go back home to work for the Lord.
According to them, there were many people in the world
who are not only in bondage, but are also afflicted with
human pains. They also instructed that I should work for
the Lord and heel people. I was even arguing, putting up
some resistance that I could not do it. This was the
condition I found myself until I opened my eyes and saw
Jide, my younger brother in this part of the world again.
In God’s vineyard
Since the Lord has directed me to work for Him, I will
surely do so because ‘to be forewarned, is to be
forearmed.’ It was because of this that I went to do my
thanksgiving service at the Mountain of Fire and Miracle,
in Lagos with the General Overseer, Pastor Olukoya.
The Lord has started performing miracles in other
people’s lives through me. I don’t want to sound boastful,
but God has started using me. I do pray for people now
and they usually return to tell me that their problems
have been solved. It is the Lord’s doing.
I have already prayed for a woman who has married been
for 14 years without a child that God will give her the
fruit of the womb. The person who lives in Ikorodu spoke
to me through the telephone and I believe Lord will
answer her prayers and request. I have accepted to work
in God’s vineyard till I return to Him.

How three men Rầped A 14-year old Girl

 A 24-year-old patent medicine
dealer, Ijezie Chidiebere, and
two other men have been
arraigned before the Ebute
Meta Magistrate’s Court for
allegedly rầping a 14-year-old
girl. The incident was said to
have taken place on August 3,
2013 in Orile-Iganmu, Lagos State.
The police said Chidiebere and the other suspects;
Okechukwu Ezea, 25 and Chikezie Ejesi, 25, detained the
victim in Chidiebere’s shop where they violated her “and in
the process, destroyed her hymen.”
To cover their action, they allegedly poured a liquid
substance suspected to be olive oil on her while
pretending to be clerics. They were said to have told
some people that had gathered that the girl was a witch,
who needed urgent spiritual deliverance. Some of the
people, who were not convinced, alerted policemen who
arrested the trio.
The three men were arraigned on four counts of felony,
rầpe and false representation. The charges read in part,
“That you, Ijezie Chidiebere,m, Okechukewu Ezea, m,
Chikezie Ejesi,m and others now at large on August 3,
2013, at 9pm at No 8, Kekere-Ekun Street, Orile-Iganmu
in the Lagos Magisterial District did conspire amongst
yourselves to commit felony to wit defilement and
administering of noxious substance.”
The prosecutor, Sergeant Qasim Adams, said the
offences were punishable under Sections 409, 137,166(1)
(D) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State Nigeria 2011 and
Section 247(b) of the Criminal Code of Law of Cap ‘C38’
Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004.
The men pleaded not guilty to all the charges. The
magistrate, Mr. K.O Ogundare, admitted the defendants
to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in
like sum.
He also instructed the police to transfer the matter to
the Surulere Family Court where it would receive proper
attention as the court lacked the jurisdiction to try the
case. The matter was adjourned till September 24, 2013

Lagos has claimed that a 20-
year old woman delivered a
tortoise and a baby girl in his
clinic. The woman, Rasheedat
Raimi, said she had carried the
pregnancy for 10 months
before she eventually
delivered the baby girl and the tortoise at a trado-
medical clinic on Mutairu Street, Off Ijegun Road,
outskirts of Lagos. She was in pains as she talked to
P.M.NEWS about the strange delivery. “I came to Yakafi
for prayers because of the terrible pains I was having in
my stomach. Immediately I got here, prayers were
offered and immediately there was a burst of water and
blood under me.
 The tortoise came out with the placenta and the baby
came out later. I couldn’t believe my eyes, but I was very
weak. I was happy the pain left me. I felt relieved after
the delivery. Ithank God,” she told P.M.NEWS slowly. On
whether she attended ante-natal clinic before the
delivery, the young woman said: “I carried the pregnancy
for 10 months. I did scans several timesand nobody told
me that I was carrying tortoisein my womb. What they
alwaystold me was that I am alright and would deliver at
the right time,” she added. “This is amazing, but true. She
did not register with my clinic for ante-natal. When she
came here with her people, she was in pains, we didn’t
know she will deliver here.
 She only camehere for Tahajjud prayers (night vigil). We
were praying when suddenly she started wriggling. She
was in pains. “I touched her stomach and observed
something strange moving inside her. It was a strange
thing. I thought it was a lizard but it turned out to be a
tortoise. The tortoise tore the placenta into pieces and
came out. The baby came out afterwards. “She fainted
after the delivery and we had to revive her with prayers.
This is what God can do. She had several scans but nobody
told her that she was carrying a tortoise in her womb. God
is great,” he declared. Ladies and Gents, Our technology

deliver you when on this position. So, stop relying on

WICKEDNESS: man was bathed with acid by ‘professional colleague’

 For Monday Obinnah, the 15th
of June, 2013 was a day he
would always remember for
the rest of his life because it
was a day he had a close shave
with death. Today, he is still
battling with the pains of an
acid bath allegedly inflicted on
him by a professional colleague and some hoodlums.
Obinnah who is now in pains narrated his ordeal to
Saturday Vanguard, amid sympathizers who thronged
daily to console him.
The middle aged man said he is an employee of an
advertising firm that is based in Lagos with special
attention on outdoor advertising.
According to him, “I am a marketing officer and North
Central supervisor of ‘Ahaa Media’ and we specialize in
outdoor advertising which include the mounting of
billboards across the country.
”On that fateful day, I travelled to Makurdi to supervise
and monitor our billboards in the town, but to my chagrin,
I saw that one of our authorised billboards located on
Otukpo road, close to Sev-Av Foundation Headquaters
had Hero larger beer illegally advertised on it without
due authorization.
“I made enquiries as to who posted the advertorial to no
avail. I had no option but to climb the board in an attempt
to remove the advertised image.
“While I was doing that, one Chidiebere Okugo who
claimed he is the sales representative of the firm whose
product was advertised on the board, mobilized hoodlums
who assisted him to attack me while I was still hanging on
the billboard.
“They used dangerous weapons including sticks, stones
and what I later realised was a chemical to force me
down, but I refused because the way they confronted
me, I was afraid for my life.
“And in their desperation to get me down from the
billboard, they struck and cut down one of the electric
power lines that was close to the billboard which fell on
me and almost electrocuted me.
“At that point, I fell down and they descended on me, but
I was lucky to have been rescued by a team of Police men
from the command headquaters. It was at the police
station that I noticed that parts of my body were peeling
off.”
He said after making his statement at the station, he was
granted bail and rushed to a hospital in Makurdi for first
aid treatment and afterwards transferred to the
National Hospital Abuja and later to the University of
Abuja Teaching Hospital where he underwent plastic
surgery and is currently battling with pains and life
threatening burns on parts of his body.
Meantime, Saturday Vanguard gathered from the First
Information Report, FIR, filed at the Police station by the
lead accused, Chidiebere Okugo, a sales representative
of the firm whose product was advertised on the
billboard, where he claimed that the advert billboard
belonged to his company.
He also claimed that he noticed the burns on the victims
body when he was taken to the Police station. “It was at
the Police station that I noticed injury on the man’s body.
“I noticed that his leg and other parts of his body were
peeling off and I do not know how to describe it.
“As a sales representative of my company covering
Makurdi only, my work does not cover billboards but to
my knowledge, the billboard in question is our company’s
billboard.
“The branding department of our company told me that
they are the people who mounted the billboard. I will be
surprised to know that my company does not own the
billboard in question.
“I am not aware that the billboard is being claimed by
another company. Though I was aware that the victim was
rushed to the National Hospital Abuja, I did not order
anybody to beat him up”, Okugo said.
Meanwhile, a Makurdi based legal practitioner, Terfa
Akosu has taken up the matter in pursuit of justice for
the victim.
Akosu told Saturday Vanguard in Makurdi that he opted
to take up the matter againt the accused and his firm
because “the treatment meted out to the victim was
dastardly, brutal and beyond comprehension.
“That the young man is still alive today is just by the share
grace of God and we strongly believe that justice would
be done in the matter to serve as deterrent to others ,”
Akosu said.y

Candance Morris had good times with other moms in her
East Price Hill neighborhood, playing cards and hanging

But what Morris, 32, did with their sons earned her prison
time Monday and has the families worried about their
sons’ health.
Morris pleaded guilty Monday to four counts of unlawful
sèxual contact with minors and was sent by Hamiltoni
County Common Pleas Court Judge Melba Marsh to prison
for a year. But it’s unknown how long the two teens she
had sèx with have to worry about their health because
Morris is HIV-positive.
“I cared for her. I cared for her son,” said the mother of
one of the 14-year-olds Morris abused. “I feel like she
planned and plotted. I feel betrayed.”
Morris often watched the teens when their parents went
out. That’s what happened New Year’s Eve when she said
she’d watch the boys.
“We were going to church and she knew that and she blew
my phone up (asking) to bring my baby over,” the mother
said.
While partying, Morris admitted she smoked many
marijuana joints, drank a half-gallon of vodka as well as
beer and champagne. Then she got in bed with the teens
and had sèx with both of them at the same time multiple
ways.
That stayed a secret until Morris argued with one of the
mothers, got into a physical altercation with her and then
shouted that she’d had sèx – in a more profane way – with
the woman’s son.
“I apologize for the pain that I caused and I know my
actions were irresponsible,” Morris told the judge,
blaming “my bad habits” for the incident. “I would never
have done it intentionally.”

Brazilian newspaper, Estadao, is claiming that the CBF (Brazilian Football Federation) is
lodging a part of the money it receives in the Barcelona President's account.
The newspaper also claims that they have several documents confirming the story and that
the CBF sent around £10.9m to a bank account in the name of Alexandre Felio, real name:
Sandro Rosell.
Personal friend
Rosell, who is former employee of sports brand Nike, spent time living in Brazil and is a
personal friend of Ricardo Teixeira, the former CBF president who was accused of
corruption and fraud.
If these reports are true and found to be fraud, Rosell could face up to eight years in
prison.

"FG can't meet ASUU's N92b demand' - Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala says

 Minister of finance, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala said yesterday during the opening of the two-day
meeting of Commissioners of Finance and Accountants-General of States, that the federal
government can't meet the N92billion being demanded by ASUU.
 Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said
“At present, ASUU wants the Federal Government to pay N92 billion in extra allowances,
when the resources are not there, and when we are working to integrate past increases in
pensions. We need to make choices in this country as we are getting to the stage where
recurrent expenditures take the bulk of our resources and people get paid but can do no
work. Since I assumed office, the share of recurrent expenditure in our total budgets had
increased astronomically. In fact, recurrent expenditure accounted for about 77.2 per
cent of the federal budget and we are now working to re-balance this ratio.
The country is still suffering from the effect of the 2010 increase in salary. Do we want to
get to a stage in this country that all the money we earn is used to pay salaries and
allowances? If the demands of the university lecturers are met and we continue to pay
them salaries and allowances, we will not be able to provide infrastructure in the
universities.”

Boko Haram kills 56 in Borno mosque, village attacks

  In yet another bizarre
occurrence, suspected
members of the violent
Islamic sect, Boko Haram,
have reportedly gunned down
44 people praying in a
mosque in Borno State.
Agency reports on Monday indicated that the killings
occurred on Sunday morning at a mosque in Konduga town,
about 35 kilometres outside Maiduguri, the Borno State
capital city.
A State Security Service agent and a member of a
vigilante group working with the military told
the Associated Press on Monday that they counted the
bodies at the mosque after the attack.
A member of the vigilante group, Usman Musa, said four
of his colleagues were killed when they responded to calls
for help.
Musa said the vigilantes encountered “fierce resistance
from heavily armed terrorists,” along the way from
Maiduguri to Konduga.
The state security agent spoke on condition of anonymity
because he was not authorised to talk to reporters.
Musa and the security service agent said the attackers
wore military camouflage uniforms used by the Nigerian
army, which they might have acquired in one of their
attacks on military bases.
On their way back from Konduga, the security forces
came upon the scene of another attack at Ngom village,
five kilometers outside Maiduguri, where Musa said he
counted 12 bodies of civilians.
Twenty-six worshippers at the mosque were hospitalised
with gunshot wounds, said a security guard at the
emergency ward of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. He and
the state security agent both spoke on condition of
anonymity because they were not allowed to give
information to reporters.
Agency reports also indicated that the leader of the Boko
Haram sect, Ibrahim Shekau, boasted in a video that his
members had killed many soldiers.
In a video received by journalists Monday, Shekau
reportedly brushed off any gains asserted by the
security forces.
They were killed as they said their prayers in a mosque in
Borno yesterday
“You soldiers have claimed that you are powerful, that we
have been defeated, that we are mad people,” Shekau
said in the local Hausa language.
He added, “But how can a mad man successfully
coordinate recent attacks in Gamboru, in Malam Fatori,
slaughter people in Biu, kill in Gwoza and in Bama, where
soldiers fled under our heavy fire power?
“We have killed countless soldiers and we are going to kill
more. We can now comfortably confront the United
States of America.”
On Christmas Day in 2011, Boko Haram members attacked
St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Madalla, Niger State,
killing at least 43 parishioners.
When our correspondent contacted the Director of
Defence Information, Brig.-Gen Chris Olukolade, he said
that he was not aware of the killings in the Borno mosque.
“I am not aware of this incident. I have not received any
official briefing on this incident you are talking about,”
Olukolade said.
The violent sect has been responsible for at least 2,000
deaths since 2009 when it began a violent campaign
against the Federal Government and its varied targets
have included churches, mosques, drinking joints, military
and police facilities.
Just last week, the terrorists attacked a barricade
mounted by the Joint Military Task Force in Gonori, Yobe
State, killing six soldiers and two policemen.
A state of emergency to curb the sect has been on in
Yobe, Borno and Adamawa states since May 14.
 Meanwhile, the United States government has said that it
has sent out invitations to some of the 19 governors in
northern Nigeria to deliberate on ending the Boko Haram
insurgency.
The US Mission in Nigeria said a senior delegation from
the US State Department expected in the country for
the 9th meeting of the US-Nigeria Bi-National
Commission, scheduled for Abuja on August 15, would
hold discussions with the governors.
United States Consul-General, Mr. Jeffrey Hawkins,
stated this during a “Roundtable with Opinion Leaders on
the US-Nigeria Bilateral Relationships” in Lagos on
Monday.
Hawkins said the rationale behind the planned meeting
was to have the “inputs’’ of the governors as part of
efforts by the White House to collaborate with the
Nigerian government in ending terrorism in the country.
He added that the discussions with the governors would
involve the leader of the American delegation, the United
States Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs,
Wendy Sherman; an Assistant Secretary in the US
Department of Defence, high ranking Deputy Assistant
Secretaries of States from the State Department, and
officials from the US-Africa Command among others.

Boko Haram Leader Claims Kano Attacks In Video, Challenges Obama, Hollande

series of recent deadly
attacks on security forces in
the northeast, in a video
obtained by AFP Monday.
Abubakar Shekau also insisted
that he was in “good health” despite an ongoing military
offensive aimed at crushing the Islamist insurgent group
he heads.
“You have not killed Shekau,” he said in the video
distributed through a local intermediary in a similar
manner to previous Boko Haram messages.
Seated on a short stool with a kalashnikov rested on his
right shoulder, Shekau said Boko Haram was “responsible”
for several deadly raids over the past month.
These include attacks on the police and military in the
towns of Malam Fatori and Bama, which sparked clashes
that killed at least 35 people, according to the military.
The video contained what Shekau claimed was footage of
Boko Haram gunmen opening fire on the military in Bama,
using heavy weapons mounted on flat-bed trucks.
Shekau also referred to fighting in the towns Baga and
Gamboru Ngala near the border with Cameroon, .
The Boko Haram leader has been declared a global
terrorist by the United States, which in March put a $7
million (5.3 million euros) bounty on his head.
“I’m challenging Obama,” Shekau said in the video. He
voiced similar challenges to French President Francois
Hollande and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“They are no match for me,” he proclaimed.
Boko Haram is believed to be made up of different
factions, with Shekau leading the most radical Islamist
cell.
He has ruled out any dialogue with the government and
says he is fighting to create an Islamic state in Nigeria’s
north.
The northeast is currently under a state of emergency as
the military pursues an offensive seeking to end Boko
Haram’s four-year insurgency.
The insurgency is estimated to have claimed more than
3,600 lives since 2009, including killings by the security
forces.
Nigeria’s 160 million population is roughly divided between
a mainly Christian south and mostly Muslim north.

Police arrest 11 Armed Robbers And 26 Cultists

 Ogun State police command at
the weekend said it has
arrested no fewer than 11
members of an armed robbery
gang that has been terrorising
the people of Abeokuta, the
state capital in recent time.
A statement issued yesterday by the command’s Public
Relations Officer, PPRO, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the
collaborative effort of the police and men of the state
vigilance service led to the arrest of the 11 suspects, one
of who was identified by their victims last Saturday.
Their arrest was even as another 26 suspected members
of a secret cult group were arrested over the weekend
across major cities and communities in Ijebu areas of the
state.
Adejobi in the statement, said policemen at the Ibara
Division led by the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Oyewole
Emmanuel, had arrested the 11 suspects late on Saturday
at Itori Oke area in Abeokuta, following a distress call
received by them.
The PPRO gave names of the suspect to include:
Ebunoluwa Oyinbo, a female, while the other 10 male
suspects are; Ishola Yusuf , Aremu Ismaila, Adebayo
Adeola, Seun Daramola, Rasheed Ahmed, Adejare
Oluwaseun, Rasaki Disu, Sunday Egbejinmi, Abiodun
Soroyehun as well as Sodiq Ajayi.
Adejobi said one of the victims (name withheld) identified
one of the suspects, Adebayo Adeola, to have been the
one that robbed him in his house earlier on August 3, 2013
at about 4.00am.
He further said the state Commissioner of Police,
Ikemefuna Okoye, has ordered that the suspects be
thoroughly investigated while they are kept at the State
Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran,
Abeokuta.
Giving assurance that the suspects would be charged to
court after the investigation has been concluded, the
police commissioner urged the people of the state to have
trust in the police and share useful information to assist
the police achieve its goal of a crime free state.
In a related development, National Mirror gathered that
the arrest of the 26 suspected cultists was carried out
by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of
operations, Muhammad AbdulKadir, in a raid launched by
the police at their hideout and black spots across
Ijebuland.
The command’s PPRO, Adejobi confirmed the arrest,
adding that the operation was part of the command’s war
on cultism in the state. He said the cultists were part of
those who have in recent time been involved in the killing
of innocent people in the Ijebu axis of the state

drama stage when a couple

appeared before the court

for the dissolution of their

nine-year-old marriage.

The couple, Emmaunel Adegbola and Olufunke, made

allegations and counter allegations of infidelity and rape

Emmanuel alleged that Olufunke was unfaithful and as

such, he wanted a divorce, but the wife, in a counter

move, alleged that her estranged husband was fond of

raping her anytime she was not in the mood to make love.

In his judgment, the court president, Mr R. I. Adeyeri,

said it appeared that the estranged couple were tired of

the marriage and love had been lost since all efforts to

reconcile both parties had failed.

“Since both parties consented to the dissolution of the

marriage, the court has no choice but to dissolve the union.

Both parties are no longer husband and wife. They are

free to go their separate ways,” he said.

The court further ruled that the issue of custody of their

four children, aged between four and eight years,

including a set of twins, should be referred to the family

court within the Lagos Judicial Division.

It also ordered Emmanuel to pay N50,000 as

rehabilitation cost to his wife.

63-year-old Emmanuel, in his petition, filed on June 26,

2013, had asked for the dissolution of his nine-year-old

marriage for alleged infidelity on the part of his wife.

He alleged that his wife was having an affair and that her

lover always came to his their house whenever he

(Adegbola) travelled out of Lagos on business.

“My wife was harbouring her boyfriend in the house I

rented for her. Anytime I went there unannounced, I

always met the man. My wife was unable to give a

satisfactory answer on who he is or his mission in my

house.”

He alleged further that his wife started threatening his

business by setting up the same business close to his

business address and was diverting his customers to her

shop.

“Initially, I told her that we should start a pure water

business together, she told me she was not interested.

But later, she opened her own pure water business

without my consent, snatching all my customers and this is

is now affecting my own business,” he said.

He added that his wife was no more cooking for him, as

she would complain of tiredness, and “that I should go

and cook for myself.”

But 40-year-old Olufunke didn’t let this go unchallenged.

She not only denied the allegations but also told the court

that the man her husband used to see in her house, was

her brother and she was not having an affair with any man.

She stated further that she was not threatening her

husband’s business but was forced to set up her own

business because her husband was not paying her salary

but was using her as a slave.

“My husband was only using me as a slave, he was not

giving me money. He and his first wife were sharing the

proceeds from the business,” she said.
